Advanced traction and propulsion systems are developed in order to ensure better energy performance, reduced operating cost, and higher lifetime of future transportation systems like road vehicles, but also more electric trains, subways, ships and airplanes. Such a powertrain integrates several complex subsystems (including power or energy sources, electric machines, power electronics, mechanical transmission) and it becomes mandatory to consider the whole system in order to reach the best performance.
In order to further promote excellence of research in Vehicle Power and Propulsion, in conjunction with the tenth annual IEEE Vehicle Power and Propulsion Conference (VPPC’2014), a special section in the IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology will be published to focus on the state-of-the-art research and development as well as future trends in modeling, design, control, and optimization of advanced powertrains for electric vehicles.
This Special Section is focused on system level and papers only related to power components and devices will not be considered. Potential authors are invited to submit an original paper for consideration of publication in the special section. A thorough peer review will be conducted to select top papers to be included in this special section. High quality papers presented at the VPPC 2014 will be selected and their authors will be invited to submit their full versions for consideration to be included in this special section. Please note that TVT requires that a journal submission offers substantive novel contributions beyond the previous work in a conference paper (more than 50% of difference). The journal submission guideline mandates that any conference paper on which the journal submission is based must be submitted along with the journal submission as a supporting document. Moreover, the reviewing process will include just one round revision and the authors are expected to submit high caliber papers at the first submission.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited, to the following:

- Deadlines -
Manuscript Submission:                                    March 1, 2015
First reviews:                                                     June 1, 2015
Revised papers:                                                 August 1, 2015
Final manuscripts:                                             September 1, 2015
Estimated publication date:                              November, 2015

Manuscript Preparation and Submission
Authors should follow the guidelines in “Information for Authors” in the IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology http://winet.ece.ufl.edu/tvt/ . Please submit your manuscript in electronic form through Manuscript Central web site: https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/tvt-ieee. On the submission page #1 in the popup menu for the manuscript type, select “Special section” and in the special section topic write: “Advanced powertrains for more electric vehicles”.

Reviewing Process
In order to avoid conflict of interest, the four Guest Editors will manage the submitted papers as follows:
- Prof. Alain Bouscayrol (France), management of papers from Asia
- Prof. Loic Boulon (Canada), management of papers from Europe excluding France
- Dr. Theo Hofman (The Netherlands), management of papers from America and other
- Prof. CC Chan (Hong Kong), management of papers from France (country with the main submission)
- papers co-authored by the Guest Editors (if any) will be managed by external associate editors of TVT
